Ann R. Sampson
Greenfield, New Hampshire - Ann Ryan Sampson, 91, died at Monadnock Community Hospital on December 26, 2011.Mrs. Sampson was born in Swampscott Massachusetts, on May 6, 1920, the daughter of Amy (McQuaide) and John Bartlett Ryan. Her family moved to Greenfield where they owned and operated the Don-Jon Poultry Farm for many years. Mrs. Sampson graduated from Wilton, NH High School. After high school she completed the Salem (Massachusetts) Hospital School of Nursing program. Mrs. Sampson worked as Registered Nurse and started her family in Massachusetts moving back to Greenfield in 1953. After working at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, Mrs. Sampson began a 30+ year career at Monadnock Community Hospital. She was among the first nurses in the critical care unit when it opened in 1972 serving as the Head Nurse and she retired as Nursing Services Coordinator. After leaving MCH Mrs. Sampson continued to work as a nurse at Scott-Farrar Home in Peterborough, NH until she retired a second and final time. In her retirement, she enjoyed swimming classes at the Bond Wellness Center, crafts group, lunches with friends, gardening and adding to her collection of teddy bears.Her husband, John J. Sampson, (who she met while he was a patient at Salem Hospital) died in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Lott of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, two sons, John J. Sampson, Jr., his wife Eileen, Donald F. Sampson, his wife Diane, both of Hillsborough; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011, from 6 to 8 PM, at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough, New Hampshire. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 30, 2011, at 11 AM, at St. Peter's Church of Divine Mercy Parish, Peterborough.
