Sarah W. Winchester

Sarah W. Winchester, age 95, of Concord, NH, formerly of Greenfield, NH, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2018.  She retained her encyclopedic memory until the end.  She was born in her grandmother’s house on Cape Cod, on November 23, 1922, the second child of Horace and Hannah (Whittemore) Woodard.  She was a graduate of  Bridgewater State College. After college, Sarah worked at the MIT Radar Lab in the drafting department until marrying and raising a family.

Sarah was a dedicated homemaker and a most beloved  mother.  She was an excellent cook, creating dishes from the bounty of her husband's garden, as well as canning and preserving  many fruits and vegetables every summer.  She was an avid reader and found great joy in fostering her children’s love of the literature and the arts, always providing a strong creative influence in their lives. Her influence also extended into the community.  She was an active member of the Greenfield Woman’s Club, happily working on their programs and support for the Town of Greenfield. 

Sarah is survived by her children Elizabeth Winchester-Larson of Keene, Harriet Kuzdrall and husband James Kuzdrall of Nashua, and Stephen Winchester of Center Barnstead and his long-time girlfriend Roberta Rayno.  She will also be missed by her granddaughter Sarah Larson of Lansing, MI, great-grandson Kenneth Grover of Keene, and siblings Daniel Woodard and Nancy Bacon, both of VT, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her loving husband of 58 years, Laurence R. Winchester, Sarah was predeceased by her siblings Norman Woodard, Mary Woodbridge, Bessie Tirrell, Donald Woodard, and Edward “Red” Woodard.

A private interment will take place in the spring.
