A loving and gentle soul left this earth on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Joseph Schultz passed away peacefully in the comfort and warmth of his home after a period of declining health.
Joe was a dedicated and loving husband to Gloria, his wife of thirty-three years and a beautiful father to Montana. In addition to his wife and daughter, Joe is survived by his little buddy Zoey (the family cat), and many extended family members and treasured friends. He was predeceased by his parents and sister Grace. Those that knew him will always remember the kindness of his smile, big hugs and warm conversations.
Joe was born in Queens, NY on April 30, 1940, the son of Charles and Helen (O’Rourke) Schultz. At an early age he became a dedicated altar boy at Miraculous Medal Church and attended St. John’s Prep and then St. John’s University. Joe proudly served six years in the Army National Guard and was chosen the “Outstanding Soldier of the Cycle”, an achievement of which he cherished. Joe worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York for over 30 years, leading to an esteemed career in banking and creating many life stories. As the President of the Federal Reserve Club, Joe was the first person outside the Kennedy family, to be allowed in President Kennedy’s gravesite. An honor he would always treasure.
After moving to New Hampshire, Joe became a dedicated volunteer for Peterborough Elementary School, reading stories to the school children. He was especially known for his variety of voices for all the different characters.
Joe was a lover of animals, always feeding all the lil’ creatures in the yard. He loved flowers and gardening, and most of all spending time with his girls. Joe was a Brooklyn Dodgers fan for his whole life, eventually becoming a Boston Red Sox fan (much to his wife’s protestation) and was a whiz at baseball trivia. Most of all he was a wonderfully sweet and caring person that will be forever missed.
