Albert H. Gove

January 5, 1934 — April 6, 2017

Albert Henry Gove, 83, of Temple, died on April 5, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was a dedicated husband, a loving father and a cherished brother. Born in Westwood, MA on January 5, 1934 to Clifford Gove and Sylvia (Chamberlain) Gove, Al graduated from Norwood High School in 1951. After graduating, he served in the Army for two years overseas in Korea at the tail end of the war. Although he attended two years of college at Northeastern University after his deployment, his entrepreneurial spirit got the better of him and he left school to start a business of his own. Al was self-employed for over 50 years as a general contractor and electrician in MA and NH. In 1968, he and his wife, Mary, moved to Temple, NH. In addition to building his own home on land that he purchased there, he built many others in Temple and neighboring towns. Al's true passion was for the outdoors; his sporting hobbies had no bounds. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper and was proud of his life-time membership in the NRA. He loved being close to nature and thoroughly enjoyed spending time on his 20 acre property. In recent years, he shared his enthusiasm by creating a fly-fishing club on the pond he created on his land. He was actively involved in protection of the environment and served on Temple's Conservation Commission for many years and was awarded an Emeritus status after leaving the board. Best known for being a naturally gifted, wonderfully humorous story teller, Al often had people in tears while listening to the anecdotes and stories about his life and adventures. He was a charismatic, friendly man who was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Albert is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Mary (Amato) Gove, and his daughter Carol Gove and her husband Paul Burba, all of Temple. He will also be missed by his older brother Bennett Gove and his wife Shirley of Temple and many nieces, grand-nieces, nephews and cousins, particularly his three cherished nieces: Linda Gove, Cynthia Gove-Cerqua and Laurie Kofstad. The family wishes to thank all of the caregivers and many well-wishers who provided support over the last few months of Al's life. In particular, we would like to thank Clint Young and Bruce Fox, both of Temple, for their dedication in helping Al as well as his family. A public Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 6th from 1-4 PM at the Temple Town Hall, Main Street, Temple, NH; everyone who knew Al is invited to attend. In keeping with Al's legacy, we hope that friends and family will share their remembrance of him with those in attendance. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Al's name to the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forest, www.forestsociety.org
