Allen L. Rockwood

October 18, 1927 — June 22, 2016

Allen Linwood Rockwood "Rocky", 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Pheasant Wood Center in Peterborough, NH. Born October 18, 1927, in Taunton, MA he was the son of the late Everett and Edna (Merserve) Rockwood. He was also preceded in death by the love of his life, Rosa (Seider) Rockwood who passed away in 1992 after 39 years of marriage; as well as his brothers, Edward and Charles, and his sister Helen. Mr. Rockwood, a former longtime resident of Mansfield, graduated in 1946 from Mansfield High School and remained active with members of his class including attending the 60th class reunion in 2006. Mr. Rockwood attended the University of Alaska when he was drafted in to the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After boot camp, he was stationed in Germany as a baker when he met and married his wife Rosa on May 30, 1953. After faithfully serving his country, Allen and his new wife returned to the United States and resided at 195 Commonwealth Ave, Attleboro Falls, MA. Mr. Rockwood worked in metallurgy and warehousing with Texas Instruments until his retirement. He kept himself busy working at a local liquor store owned by Lavery-Irvine Inc. and also helped out at Attleboro Auto Center for many years until very recently when he felt it was time he should probably quit. Mr. Rockwood was a long time member of the Congregational Church of Mansfield and he was actively involved with the Masons for most of his life. His Masonic affiliations included being a member of St. James Lodge AF & AM in Mansfield, MA. Left to cherish the fond memories and wonderful stories are his two sisters, Marion Clark along with her husband Richard and Karen Fleury along with her husband Albert, his Goddaughter Beth Ann Butler, many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. A graveside service will be held Thursday July 7, 2016 at 10:00 AM, at the Springbrook Cemetery, Spring Street, Mansfield, MA 02760 where he will be laid to rest near his Wife, Mother, Father and Sister.
