Amy E. (Campbell) Lamy, 55, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2025, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glenridge and raised in Montclair, New Jersey, Amy was the beloved daughter of the late Robert C. and Suzanne (Hinman) Campbell. She graduated from Montclair High School, earned her bachelor’s degree from Johnson State College in Vermont, and later received her master’s degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts.
A lifelong athlete with a passion for soccer and a love of competition, Amy was always eager to try new things. During college, she discovered two lasting loves—martial arts and her future husband, Paul, who shared her enthusiasm for Taekwondo. Together, they trained diligently, earned their belts, and became part of a close-knit martial arts community while building their life together.
Amy’s life was a testament to resilience, determination, and grace. Her dream of becoming an athletic trainer was interrupted by a life-changing spinal cord injury mid-way through her graduate studies. With Paul’s unwavering support, she faced her new reality with extraordinary strength. She returned to school and completed her Master of Science in Athletic Administration. Soon after, Amy fulfilled her most meaningful dream — becoming a mother following the birth of her cherished daughter, Gabrielle.
In 1993, Amy and Paul founded Lamy’s Black Belt Academy, where she managed the business, taught classes, and inspired students of all ages with her courage and commitment. Amy was more than an instructor — she was a mentor and role model, demonstrating that perseverance and heart could overcome any obstacle. Among her many achievements, she became one of the few athletes with quadriplegia to earn her 6th degree black belt by reciting the sequence of forms and breaking boards with focus and precision. Dedicated to giving back, Amy led the studio in community outreach, offering after-school programs and organizing local fundraisers. LBBA was both her passion and her purpose, and its members became an extension of her family.
Beyond athletics, Amy found joy in life’s everyday moments. She satisfied her competitive spirit playing card and board games with Paul and Gabby, always with plenty of laughter. Her creativity flourished through scrapbooking, as she lovingly preserved family memories and stories for generations to come. Music was another of Amy’s great passions; an avid concert-goer, she shared countless special moments and a deep connection with Gabby through their love of live music.
Amy is survived by her devoted husband of 30 years, Paul J. Lamy; her beloved daughter, Gabrielle J. Lamy; her brother, Dr. Robert C. Campbell and his wife, Sherry, of Charlestown, RI; her sisters, Melanie (Campbell) Amaral and her husband, Steve, of Holden, MA; and Jennifer Campbell and her partner, Timothy Griffin, of Waterbury Center, VT. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Per the family’s wishes, services will be held privately.
