New Ipswich, NH Barbara A. Carlson, nee Bass, 84, died on February 6, 2015 at Good Sheppard Nursing Home, Jaffrey, NH. Barbara was born in Quincy Massachusetts to Frances A. Bass, nee Roberts of Antrim, New Hampshire and John B. Bass, of Quincy Massachusetts, on March 14, 1930. In 1948 she graduated from the Woodward School of Quincy, MA, and later married the late Lt. Colonel Donald Carlson, New Hampshire State Representative, on June 14, 1953. After many years traveling the world and supporting her husband in his service to the United States Army, Barbara and her family settled in New Ipswich in 1980. She was an amazing story teller and two of her favorite stories were the times she crossed the Khyber Pass in Afghanistan; and traveling to Egypt to see the Sphinx and the Pyramids. Barbara attended Keene State College and was awarded a bachelor's degree in history, summa cum laude, in 1984. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Always happy to help, Barbara enjoyed her years of service to the Town of New Ipswich as a Trustee of the Trust Funds. She is survived by her daughter Dawn K. Carlson, of Salem, MA, her son J. Kyle Carlson, of New Bedford, Ma and her three grandchildren Alexa, Nicole and Hannah; as well as several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Friday February 13, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm, at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough. The burial will be private for the family at the New Hampshire Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Barbara's name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Care Dimensions is a non-profit Hospice and Palliative care company.
