Bruce C Russell

Bruce Cutter Russell (well known as “Woody”), 85, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2026, surrounded by the love of his immediate family. He was born on May 27, 1940, in Peterborough to Chester and Louise (Cutter) Russell.

Bruce was a lifelong resident of Greenfield. He was proud of his heritage and his deep generational roots there. He graduated from Peterborough High School in 1958. He worked for several local trucking companies before he started his 27-year career at the Public Service Company of NH. In 1967, he married his longtime love, Winnie Devin, a summer resident of Greenfield, and their union has lasted 58 years.

After his retirement from PSNH, he achieved his longtime dream of owning a trucking company and established Woody’s Trucking. His passion for trucking brought him many opportunities to operate the trucks that meant so much to him. While he was plowing snow, delivering materials, hauling asphalt, or his all-time favorite- being a member of the shimming crew for the state, he made many friends, and he spoke of them often. During this time, he also enjoyed being a co-owner of The Beer Store in Peterborough.

Bruce was a dedicated sports fan, following all of the Boston sports teams. The one sport he was not a fan of was golf, stating, “It’s not really a sport if you are competing for the lowest score”. He later became a well-loved and respected Little League coach for Greenfield. His coaching rivalry with Larry Bishop led to one of his proudest moments when his team defeated Larry’s Peterborough team for the championship. He coached, umpired, and caught for many adult male softball teams in and out of the Monadnock Region. He later coached a co-ed team in Peterborough.

He was often the life of the party. His playful personality drew many people to him. Those who knew him best knew he was sarcastic but kind.

Bruce was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Winni; his children, Amy Fox and her husband Matt Fox, and Kerry Ingalls and her husband Cliff Ingalls; his grandchildren Eric Patch and Delaney Ingalls; his great-granddaughter Oakleigh Wilder-Patch; two bonus great-grandchildren Ezra and Winona; his brother Dale Russell and his wife Kathleen; his sister Jackie Whiton and her husband Doug. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, many cousins, and close friends.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in our memories. His life was a testimony to his hard work and the love of his family. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
