David Howe, resident of Marlborough and Peterborough, NH, passed away on October 25, 2017 in the presence of his family at the age of 92. David was born in Woonsocket, RI on July 6, 1925 to Mildred and Percival Howe, and grew up in Short Hills, NJ. He attended Groton School (1943), Harvard College (1948), and Harvard Business School (1950). He interrupted his college education to enlist in the US Army early in World War II, serving as a Captain in the Signal Corps based in Iraq and Iran.
David joined the American Thread Company becoming EVP, CAO and Head of Shared Services in New York, NY and Stamford, CT. Later in his life, he became CFO of Northfield Mount Hermon School, Mount Hermon, MA. David was a passionate supporter of numerous non-profit organizations, particularly in secondary education, where he served on many Boards, including Groton School, Fairfield Country Day School, The Apple Hill Music Institution, The Dublin School, and The Mayhew Program. Additionally, David provided leadership in the larger community through the Dublin Lake Club, NY Lighthouse for the Blind, The Sharon Arts Center, and Yankee Magazine.
David greatly enjoyed fishing, particularly salmon fishing, and ventured annually into remote regions of Quebec and Alaska to try his luck. He was also an enthusiastic bird hunter and enjoyed training and working his dogs in the field. In both of these pursuits, David enjoyed the company of his family and friends above the sport itself.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, (Mary) “B” Howe, their children David Jr, Sharman, and Nelson, and their eight grandchildren. In the last half of his life, David dedicated much of his time to the communities and causes in the Keene, Dublin, and Peterborough areas, including a long run on the vestry at St. James Church in Keene. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by his family and many friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at the St. James Church, 44 West St, Keene, NH 03431, on Friday, November 3 at 1:00 PM.
David asked that any donations in his memory be made to The Mayhew Program, PO Box 120, 293 West Shore Rd, Bristol, NH 03222 or The Dublin School, 18 Lehmann Way, Dublin, NH 03444.
