Donald S. Rodenhiser

Donald S. Rodenhiser, 69, of Peterborough, died at his home, on April 29, 2014, after a period of illness. He was born in Newton, MA on October 6, 1944, the son of Margaret L. (Varey) Rodenhiser and Abbott L. Rodenhiser. He was raised in West Newton, MA and moved with his family to New Ipswich in 1961. He graduated from Appleton Academy in 1963. Mr. Rodenhiser attended Franklin Pierce College and Midwest Farrier School. He worked for the former Seppala and Aho Construction Co. He also worked at Digital Equip Corp, then Hewlett-Packard, for 23 years. Don also worked for the Town of Peterborough DPW before retiring in 2007. Mr. Rodenhiser served in the United States Navy from 1966-69 aboard the USS Brinkley Bass (DD887) during the Vietnam War. He was a former volunteer member of the New Ipswich Fire Department. Don served many years on the Peterborough Recreation Committee and was involved in the development of the Cunningham Pond Recreation Area. He was a member of the Monadnock Chapter of Trout Unlimited and served on the Board of Directors. He supported and later organized the Loran Hanson Fishing Derby for 25 years, held annually in Peterborough. Don was a long time advocate of youth fishing and enjoyed helping with the stocking of local streams and ponds. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, cooking and spending time with his family. Donald is survived by his loving wife, Deborah (Cooney), of 40 years and his son Keith and his wife Becky and his son Todd. He will also be missed by his two granddaughters, Emma and Abby, his brother Jason and his wife Elizabeth; several nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear friends. Don was predeceased by his brother Lawrence A. Rodenhiser in 2003. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Union Congregation Church of Peterborough, 33 Concord Street, Peterborough. Burial will be private for family.
