Dr. Robert Michael D’Agostino, 74, of Peterborough, passed away unexpectedly in his home on October 11th, 2026. He was born on February 27, 1952, in Flushing, New York, to Robert and Sarah (Amato) D’Agostino.
Robert grew up in Flushing, New York, surrounded by a large, loving Italian family, where family, tradition, and togetherness were an important part of life. He attended Holy Cross High School, graduating with the class of 1970. While there, he fulfilled a dream of playing on his high school football team. He went on to attend the University at Buffalo, earning his Bachelor of Science degree before pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a physician.
With determination, grit, and resilience, Robert put himself through medical school in Grenoble, France, before completing his medical education and graduating in Paris. It was during a holiday break spent visiting family in southern Florida that he met the love of his life, Adrienne. Their story began there, and together they navigated the final years of his medical schooling, building a foundation for the life they would share. They married on August 2, 1981, and welcomed their first daughter, Natalie, in Paris in 1982.
The family later returned to the United States, where Robert completed his medical residency at JFK Medical Center in Newark, New Jersey. During this time, they welcomed their second daughter, Amanda, completing their family. Robert's journey to becoming a physician was one of hard work, determination, and perseverance, all while building a life with the family he loved. He turned his lifelong dream into a reality and began a career that would touch countless lives over the years.
Robert dedicated more than 34 years of his life to caring for the greater Milford community as a physician. Throughout his career, he served patients through Monadnock Community Hospital and Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, with more than 10 years in private practice in between. For Robert, being a physician was about so much more than medicine. He had a natural warmth and kindness that made people feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for. He treated his patients and colleagues with genuine compassion and respect, building meaningful relationships that extended far beyond the walls of the office. His dedication to his patients and the community he served for so many years was a reflection of the caring person he was, and the lives he touched along the way will be a lasting part of his legacy.
Outside of his professional life, Robert enjoyed reading, skiing, and traveling. He had a love for theater and a curiosity about the world that extended to the food he enjoyed, always happy to try flavors and dishes from different cultures. He also had a special appreciation for life’s simple pleasures, especially a scoop of ice cream or a piece of chocolate.
Robert was a devoted member of the Milford Lions Club for more than 20 years, reflecting his lifelong commitment to helping others and giving back to his community. His compassion extended beyond his local community, leading him to volunteer with Doctors Without Borders in South America and participate in a medical mission to China with Children’s HeartLink. These experiences reflected Robert’s desire to care for others and make a difference in the lives of people around the world. Whether at home or abroad, Robert’s dedication to helping others was an important part of who he was.
Robert will be remembered for his kindness, his willingness to lend an open ear, his positive outlook on life, and his generous spirit. He had a special way of making others feel welcome and valued, and he formed meaningful connections with so many throughout his life. Whether sharing a meal, enjoying a theater performance, exploring a new place, or simply spending time with others, Robert found joy in experiences that brought people together.
Robert had always dreamed of traveling the world, and upon retiring in 2022, he finally had the opportunity to turn that dream into reality. Retirement opened the door to new adventures, and he embraced the chance to explore new places, experience different cultures, and see more of the world. His travels took him to France, Italy, England, Australia, New Zealand, the Caribbean, and Scandinavia. These adventures brought him the joy of discovery and the opportunity to experience all that the world had to offer. After spending so many years caring for others, Robert enjoyed this special chapter of life, making memories and fulfilling a dream he had carried with him for years.
Above all, Robert treasured his time with family and friends. Some of his most cherished memories were made each summer along the coast of Maine, where he spent special time with his grandchildren. Those summers were filled with opportunities to be together, share experiences, and create memories that his family will hold close for years to come. The love he had for his family and the time he spent with those closest to him were among the greatest joys of his life.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife, Adrienne, who passed away in 2019. He is survived by his two daughters, Natalie D’Agostino of Boston, Massachusetts, and Amanda Rogers of Waterbury, Vermont, her husband, Christopher, and their cherished children, Jackson and Lucy. He also leaves behind his brother Richard and his wife, Wendy; his brother Ronald and his wife, Debbie; and his sister April and her husband, Dave, all of Florida, as well as his beloved nieces and nephews and extended family in New York.
Robert also leaves behind many dear friends who became an important part of his life over the years. From childhood friendships to the connections he made through his medical career, his community, and his travels, Robert had a special way of bringing people together. The friendships he built and the memories they shared will be treasured by those who knew and loved him.
