Dr. Robert Grassi (Bob) of Wolfeboro NH, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at the Wolfeboro Bay Center on January 28, 2022. Bob was the son of Frank and Dora (Motto) Grassi, he was 80 years old and was born in the Bronx, NY on March 15, 1941.
Bob began his service to others as a teenager in the Boy Scouts of America where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and attended the Fordham Prep School where he was in the honors program. He continued onto Fordham College and then Georgetown Medical School where he earned his medical degree. Following medical school he fulfilled his medical internship at St Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester MA, where he met his wife Claire. He then served in the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service in Parker Arizona where he was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander. After completing his obligation with the Corps, Bob volunteered for the American Medical Association where he cared for children as a physician in Vietnam. Following his time in Vietnam, Bob completed his residency at the Children’s Hospital in Washington DC. He then moved his family to Peterborough, NH and founded Monadnock Pediatrics where he practiced for over 30 years. In addition to his role as a pediatrician he served as the Medical Director at the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center and Franklin Pierce College.
Dr. Bob was forced into early retirement after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Early retirement allowed him to pursue his lifelong passion for photography. As a gifted photographer Bob was always willing to share his knowledge and became well-respected as an artist in the community. He was a member of the New Hampsire Art Association and his photos are still on display in public buildings throughout the state including the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.
Bob leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Claire (Larochelle) Grassi and their three children Gina Brochu, her husband Bill, Robert Grassi Jr., Jeff Grassi, his wife Suna along with four grandchildren, Cameron, Colette, Ayla and Seren. Bob also leaves behind his lifelong friends Tom and Diane Maher of Winchester MA and Austin TX.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, June 3 at 11 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough, NH. A burial service will follow at the family plot located at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Bob’s name to either the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (C/O Donation Processing, The Michael J. Fox Foundation, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014) or the Food Pantry at the Trinity Center of Austin, 304 E. 7th St., Austin, TX 78701.
