Elizabeth (Beth) Caroline Allen, 80, of Jaffrey, passed away peacefully due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease on May 23rd, 2025, at Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born in Norwalk, CT on July 3rd,1944, the daughter of William and Elizabeth (Wilk) Peters.
Beth grew up in Port Chester, NY until high school, when her family moved to Danbury, CT. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1962, where she met her lifelong friend Charlotte Steenson. She married Robert R. Allen, Jr. in 1966 and together they raised four children and two stepdaughters in Bethel, CT, and later in Durham, NH.
Beth attended Western Connecticut State University, studying archaeology. She had a lifelong passion for history and desired to travel the world, preferably by train. She was able to make one cross-country train trip from AZ to NH, which she adored. Beth also had several wonderful pets who she doted on over the years, including her dog Jake, and several cats.
After her children were grown, she and Bob relocated to Dunnellon, FL to be near Bob’s father and stepmother. While in FL, Beth worked as a bookkeeper and volunteered at the Tri-County Pregnancy Center. After Bob’s passing, Beth moved to Keene, NH to be closer to her children and grandchildren. While living in Keene, Beth joined the Keene Historical Society and volunteered at the Keene Senior Center.
Some of her fondest memories were of traveling with Bob to Ireland to visit relatives, and of a cruise in Europe with family and another dear friend, Kathy Dowling.
After moving to Jaffrey, Beth joined the Jaffrey Historical Society and enjoyed attending their programs with her friend Marty (Martha) Harris. Marty was a great comfort to her in the final years of her life. The family would also like to acknowledge the loving care and attention she received while living at Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Their dedication and support were a wonderful gift to both Beth and her family.
Above all else, Beth loved being a mother and grandmother. She attended as many gatherings and events with her children and grandchildren as possible throughout her life, until her deteriorating health prevented her from traveling.
Beth is predeceased by her husband Robert Ray Allen, Jr, and her stepdaughter Sheila Brooks. She is survived by her brothers Robert Peters (Debbie) of Leesburg, FL and William Peters (Shawn) of Torrington, CT, daughter Monica Allen of Waterbury, CT, daughter Christine Robidoux (Greg) of Temple, NH, son Mark Allen (Stacey) of Warner, NH, son Craig Allen (Emily) of Strafford, VT, step-daughter Sheryl Allen (Dave Freitas) of Saint Francisville, LA, step-son-in-law Roger Brooks of Danbury, CT, sister in law Lynn Slater of Canton, CT, ten beloved grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
