Obituary

Estelle Merzi, 90, of Greenfield, NH passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026. She was born on June 17, 1936, in Springfield, MA to the late Constantine V. and Marigo A. (Aivalis) Roufogalis. She was the beloved wife to the late Peter L. Merzi.

Estelle spent her youth in Brockton, MA with her sister Penelope (Penny) and brother Charles (Butch). As a young girl, Estelle worked in her parent’s bakery as well as Christos Restaurant. Church was a constant as a child, attending the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church regularly.

In 1976, Estelle and her husband Peter moved to New Hampshire. However, the bustle and convenience of city life forever remained in her heart. While Pete was trucking over the road, Estelle was busy raising their two boys, working full-time, and keeping the books for Merzi Trucking. Many companies were graced by Estelle’s intelligence and quick wit, including Brookstone, Kelly Business Forms, and Cobblestone Magazine. In her retirement years, Estelle volunteered at Monadnock Community Hospital and was a member of the Greenfield Women’s Club.

Faith, family, and friends were very important to Estelle. She cherished the days taking her grandchildren to church, and was happiest when her family was all together. Estelle enjoyed many evenings with friends and family playing dominoes and sharing stories. In her later years, Estelle would always say, “age is just a number” and people were in disbelief when they learned of her actual age, always passing for “no older than 65!”

Estelle is survived by two sons, Michael (Laura) Merzi, of Greenfield, NH, and Steven (Lisa) Rigopoulos, of Jaffrey, NH; her grandson Nicholas Merzi, of Marquette, MI, granddaughter Olivia Merzi of Greenfield, NH, sister Penelope (Penny) Kazis, of Brockton, MA, and her four nieces (Stephanie, Dina, Chrissy and Valeri), whom she absolutely adored.

In addition to her parents and her husband Peter, she is predeceased by her brother, Charles Roufogalis, and her brother-in-law Jerry Kazis.

The Trisagion (visitation) will be held on July 9, 2026, beginning at 10:00am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11am. Both will be held at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak Street, Brockton, MA 02301.

Interment will be held following services at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Estelle’s name to: Greenfield Fire Department, PO Box 146, Greenfield, NH 03047.
