Frederick R. Cambal-Hayward, 84 of Hancock, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of his family on October 1, 2021. He was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada on February 15, 1937, the son of Harvey and Della (Boone) Hayward.
Fred, raised in Calais, Maine, attended the University of Maine where he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Fred was an engineer, an avid Red Sox fan, a dog lover, a basketball player, a great Bridge player, and always took an interest in getting to know people he encountered in everyday life. Fred’s career spanned forty years and was primarily focused on Defense Missile Technology at Picatinny Arsenal, Avco, Hycor and TEK Microsystems. He enjoyed traveling especially to the Southwest, Hawaii, the South of France, and his time exploring Canada and California. He was proud of his Canadian heritage and became a dual citizen later in life. Most of all, he loved his family and his family loved celebrating Father’s Day with him.
Fred will be sorely missed by his wife Cathy Cambal-Hayward of Hancock and his four children Mark and Mila Hayward of Paso Robles, CA, Tim and Lisa Hayward of Dracut, MA, Joanne Conroy and Dan Turgeon of Rochester, NH, Gary, and Barbara Hayward, of Hampton, NH. He leaves his grandchildren, Roy, Kara, Bea, Christopher, Kayla, Justin, Nicolas, Erin, Sean, Simon, and Jesse along with his great-grandchildren Cora, Jake, Luke, Heidi, Logan, and Madeline. He will also be missed by his sister-in-law, Mary Cambal, and her husband Roger Monette of Andover, MA. Jeremy, his first grandson, predeceased him.
Private services will be held at a later date.
