Henry V. Hanley, 91, of New Ipswich, passed away at Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on Thursday, December 30, 2021 with his daughter Barbara by his side, after a period of failing health. He was born in Hampton, NY, on January 20, 1930, the son of Carl and Bertha (Fancy) Hanley.
Henry grew up in Somerville, MA and graduated from Somerville High School in 1948. He joined the Air Force in December 1950 and was honorably discharged with the rank of S/SGT. Henry enjoyed playing hockey. He married the love of his life Thelma on September 5, 1951. Together, they enjoyed traveling and square dancing. Henry was a member of the American Legion Post 13 in Greenville, NH where he held several ranks. Henry lived in Somerville, MA, Melrose, MA, Hingham, MA, and moved to New Ipswich, NH in 1980.
Henry was predeceased by his wife, Thelma (Campbell) Hanley in 2018 and his son Robert Hanley in 2017.
He is survived by his son Richard Hanley of Bourne, MA, his daughters Barbara Trempe and her husband Roger of New Ipswich, NH and Cheryl Hewitt of Hancock, NH. He will also be missed by many grand-children, great-grand-children and great-great-grand-children as well as a nephew Peter Hanley, and his wife Judi, of New Hampshire and their children.
SERVICE UPDATE: Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 5th, 2022 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough New Hampshire. A graveside service, with full military honors, will take place in the spring at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, in Peabody, MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Henry’s name to American Legion Post 13, 13 River Street, Greenville, NH 03048.
