John R. Faust, 81, of Peterborough, NH died peacefully, Friday morning, Dec. 22, at Monadnock Community Hospital after several months of failing health.
John was born in Manchester, NH on Nov. 11, 1936 to the late Archie and Lena Faust. He graduated in 1954 from Central High in Manchester, NH, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts Education from Keene State College in 1958.
He began his career in education teaching Industrial Arts at Hillsboro-Deering Co-op High School in Hillsboro, NH in 1958, moving on to Plymouth High School until 1967. In 1967, he was selected as one of 12 experienced teachers from throughout the US to participate in an Experienced Teacher Fellowship Program at Wisconsin State University in Platteville, WI, in a concept called Industriology. This program culminated in 1968 with his Master's degree.
John came to Peterborough in 1968 as the first Vocational Curriculum Coordinator in the ConVal School District. He was responsible for initiating and administering a new vocational program in grades 7-12 at what was then the new regional high school. Later he also worked at Mascenic Regional High School in a Drop-Out Prevention Program, was an Instructional Systems Specialist at New England Resource Center for Occupational Education, and Dean of Instruction at Manchester Community Technical College. In 1976, he moved to Keene State College where he was Director of a Vocational Teacher Certification Program until his retirement in 1998. In this position, he developed resources and led workshops, helping over 450 vocational technical people earn their teaching certification.
John loved being an educator and never missed a "teaching moment" He enjoyed camping, cribbage, spending the winter in Florida and being with his family.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend of nearly 60 years, Cynthia, his daughter Laurie Hinman and her husband, David of Salida, CO, his daughter Lynne Weatherill and her husband, Simon, of Sharon VT, his son Peter and his wife, Carrie, of DeSoto, MO, and seven beloved grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peterborough Fire and Rescue or the Salvation Army.
