John "Jack" Linke Lewis

John Linke “Jack” Lewis, 81, of Peterborough, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, New Hampshire, on May 8, 2026 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in New York City on August 13, 1944, Jack was the son of the late Ralph F. Lewis and Thelma Linke Lewis.

Jack graduated from Briarcliff High School in 1962, Amherst College in 1966, and Harvard Business School in 1968, where he met his future wife, Mary Lisbeth “MaryLiz” Wachendorf Lewis. They were married on February 22, 1969 and shared 57 years together.

Jack spent his career with Chemical Bank in New York City, later JP Morgan Chase Bank, retiring in 2001 as Senior Vice President.

Jack and MaryLiz made their home in Summit, New Jersey, beginning in 1970, where they raised their family and were active members of Calvary Church. In 2002, they moved to Dublin, New Hampshire, and later to Peterborough in 2020. Jack remained active in his church and community throughout his life. He was an active member at Calvary Church in Summit and later served as Senior Warden and Treasurer at All Saints Church in Peterborough.

In retirement, Jack devoted himself to community service and conservation efforts. He served as treasurer of the Peterborough Players and the Dublin Riding and Walking Club, and chaired the Dublin Conservation Commission. He was passionate about preserving New Hampshire’s natural landscapes for recreation and wildlife.

Jack loved golf and was a regular at the Dublin Lake Club Golf Course. He was also an avid swimmer who swam in Dublin Lake nearly every afternoon, proudly extending his swimming season into the cold waters of May and October. He will be remembered for his warm personality, friendliness, generosity, and his enduring love of bad puns.

Jack is survived by his wife, MaryLiz Lewis of Peterborough, NH; his daughter Sara Lewis Rall and her husband Charles Rall of Warren, NJ, his daughter Katherine H. Lewis (“Kate”) of Arlington, MA; his grandchildren, Charles Rall, Mary Rall, Rebecca Rall, and Katherine Rall; his sisters, Reverend Barbara Lewis of Atlanta, GA, and Virginia Lewis of Gainesville, FL; as well as extended family and many dear friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at All Saints Episcopal Church, 51 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH, 03458, on Saturday, May 23 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
