Bennington, NH Joseph O'Brien, 54, of Bennington died unexpectedly in Dover on January 30, 2017. Joe was born in Arlington, MA on April, 13, 1962 the son of Robert O'Brien and Eleanor (Piantedosi) O'Brien. Joe grew up and attended schools in Belmont, MA. As a young adult, he moved to NH and settled in Bennington where he raised his family for the last 26 years. Joe worked for Mammoth Fire Alarms and Security for twelve years. He was a registered EMT and a volunteer firefighter for the Town of Bennington, where he held all positions available to him, including Chief. During his time on the Fire department he founded and supervised the Bennington Fire Explorers which ran from 1996-2005. He touched many young lives during this time, some of which went on to peruse careers in the firefighter field. He was also the president of the Pop Warner Association for three years and loved his community and volunteering. He was especially fond of the Breakfast with Santa held at the Bennington Fire Station and he was known for his elaborate Christmas lights and decorations he set up each year. Joe will be deeply missed by his loving family and those whose lives he touched. In addition to his parents, Joe is survived by his devoted wife Lori (Elliott) O'Brien of Bennington and his four daughters; Christine Myhaver and her husband Christopher of Hillsborough, Kathleen O'Brien and her significant other Darren Hennry of Collinsville, IL, Jaimie O'Brien and her significant other Garrett Cassidy of Hancock and Ashleigh O'Brien and her significant other Richard Cote of Bennington. Joe will also be missed by his sister Doreen O'Brien of Woburn, MA and his three grandchildren; Cyril and Fergus Myhaver and Izzabell O'Brien. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jellison Funeral Home, 25 Concord Street, Peterborough. A Funeral Mass will follow at 12:30 PM at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough. Father Michael S. Taylor will be the Celebrant. (GPS users please use 161 Wilton Rd, Peterborough NH 03458) In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Joe's name to Bennington Fire Rescue, 7 School Street, Bennington, NH 03442.
