Mary Jane Marsden

Peterborough, NH Mary Jane Marsden, 84, of Francestown, died peacefully on January 9, 2015 at Pheasant Wood Center in Peterborough. She was born on May 6, 1930 in Boston, MA the daughter of Mark Crockett and Aphia (Noyes) Crockett. Mary Jane grew up in West Roxbury, MA and graduated from the University of Maine at Orono. She moved to Francestown with her husband, Donald Marsden, in 1962. She very active in the Francestown community, participating in many committees including the Recreation Committee, the Francestown Village Water Company, Francestown Improvement and Historical Society, and the Monadnock Food Co-op. She worked at the original Crotched Mountain Ski Area in Francestown and was very active in the ski club and ski racing. Although she did not ski herself, she supported her children and their enthusiasm for the sport. She organized and ran the Francestown contra dances for over 40 years and kept them going, often with her own donations, even in times when interest waned. In addition to her commitment to the Town of Francestown, Mary Jane had many interests including gardening and walking; she was a regular fixture on the roads of Francestown with her family's dogs. Mary Jane is survived by her son Ken Marsden and his wife Jennifer of Woodside, CA, her daughter Katie Marsden Gadwah of Francestown, and her 3 grandchildren, Peter Marsden, Nate Gadwah and Lexi Gadwah. She is predeceased by her husband Donald Marsden, her son Scott Marsden, and her brothers, Peter Crockett, John Crockett, and Mark Crockett, Jr. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the Old Meeting House in Francestown. The date will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Mary Jane's name to The Old Meeting House, PO Box 213, Francestown, NH 03043 or the Francestown Land Trust, PO Box 132, Francestown, NH 03043
