Paula J. Rounds, 68, of Hancock, passed away in the comfort of her own home on Friday, June 11, 2022. She was blessed to be surrounded by the love of her family.
Paula was born in Ipswich, MA on January 20, 1954, the daughter of Samuel and Frances (Lysik) Chouinard. She was raised in Ipswich, MA, and was a graduate of Ipswich High School in 1972. Following high school, Paula attended the University of Massachusetts, where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in 1977. She furthered her career by obtaining her Master’s Degree in Education from Southern Connecticut University, graduating in 1979. She met the love of her life, Martin Rounds, and they were married on June 20, 1981. They moved to Hancock, NH, where they raised their family together.
Paula was a dedicated teacher and advocate for 36 years, starting her career at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center and then teaching in the ConVal School District for 31 years. Her dedication and passion for teaching was reflected in the countless friendships she had, many of whom were also teachers, all of whom she loved dearly. Annual trips to Maine with the “Sparkle Girls” were some of the fondest memories that she shared with them.
Aside from teaching, Paula enjoyed the beach, especially Popham Beach, Maine, where the family built a home that they enjoyed for many years. Paula loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, all of whom she cherished. Paula’s beloved dog, Otis, was also a part of the family, and he was always by her side.
Paula is survived by her husband of 40 years, Martin Rounds, of Hancock, NH, her sons, Garrett and wife Sarah of Epping, NH, and Samuel and wife Sarah of Hopkinton, NH, her beautiful grandchildren, Nolan, Liam and Harlow, her brother, Michael of Danvers, MA, as well as her extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her son, Griffin, and both of her parents.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 1:00PM at Norway Plain Cemetery, 39 Main Street, Hancock NH. A celebration of Paula’s life will immediately follow at 2:00PM at the Hancock Vestry, 43 Main Street, Hancock NH. All who knew and loved Paula are warmly welcome to attend and share fond memories together.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Paula’s name to the Monadnock Humane Society , 101 W. Swanzey Road, Swanzey NH 03446.
