Richard Joseph Burke, 78, of Milford, passed away, after a period of failing health, on May 7, 2018 in Boynton Beach, FL. He was born in Waltham, MA on December 26, 1939.
After serving four years in the United States Navy aboard The USS Oriskany, Richard settled in Hudson, MA where he raised his family and continued a life of service, working nearly 40 years as a nurse at the Walter E. Fernald State School in Waltham, MA.
He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all New England sports and never missed a sporting event that his children participated in.
Richard will be remembered and missed as someone who enjoyed an engaging, thoughtful conversation with anyone. He appreciated a conversation with some good bantering and differing points of view. He was loved by all who knew him and will be missed by many.
In addition to his loving wife of 47 years, Joanne (Sweeney) Burke of Milford and Boynton Beach, FL, Richard is survived by his children; Jennifer Lynn Burke of Clinton, MA, Matthew Paul Burke, and his fiancé Angela Cone, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Rebecca Eder-Linell, and her husband Aaron, of Francestown. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren Madalynn Grace, Liam Patrick and Peyton Burke Eder-Linell, all of Francestown.
A Memorial Mass will be held on June 2, 2018 at 10am at Divine Mercy Parish, 12 Church Street, Peterborough. A luncheon will immediately follow at Cooper’s Hill Public House. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Milford, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to UMass Memorial Medical Center – Transplant Unit, Office of Advancement, 333 South Street
