Richard D
Olsen
June 15, 1934 – April 13, 2026
Richard D. Olsen, known affectionately as “Dick,” passed away peacefully on April 13, 2026, at the age of 91.
Richard was born on June 15, 1934, in Freeport, New York, to Gustave and Grace Olsen. From a young age, he distinguished himself as an exceptional athlete and became a star basketball player at his high school, admired for his skill, discipline, and sportsmanship.
Following high school, Richard was drafted into the United States Army near the end of the Korean conflict and was stationed in Japan. His talent on the basketball court continued during his military service, where he was a valued member of his Army base’s basketball team, proudly representing his unit and his country.
Dick was the first in his family to attend college, graduating from Hofstra University. He went on to become a Certified Public Accountant, establishing his own accounting practice, which he successfully operated for 50 years before retiring in 2015. His career was marked by professionalism, integrity, and trusted relationships with his clients.
After returning home from military service, Dick married Barbara Baecht, and together they built a loving family. He was a devoted husband and father to five children: Jacki, Jill, Jodi, Eric, and Jenilyn.
One of Dick’s greatest joys was his role as “Poppo.” He was a proud grandfather to 10 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to two great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way.
In his personal time, Dick enjoyed golf, long walks, and hiking Mount Ascutney. He was also known for his great sense of humor, often bringing laughter to those around him with his warmth and wit.
Dick’s family is deeply grateful for the care, compassion, and humanity shown to him by the staff at Bridges by EPOCH of Nashua. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his memory to Bridges by EPOCH, 575 Amherst Street. Nashua, NH 03063
Richard D. Olsen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
