Rose Anne
Jenkins
Jun 23, 1943 — Oct 2, 2026
Rose Anne Jenkins, 83, of Peterborough, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on October 2, 2026. She was born on June 23, 1943, in Peterborough to Joseph and Mary (Tasca) Duval. Rose was the eldest of four children. She was a lifelong and devout catholic and an active member of the Divine Mercy Parish in Peterborough.
Rose was raised in Greenville, New Hampshire. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary School in Greenville and attended high school at New Ipswich Appleton Academy, which is the second oldest private academy in the state. After graduation, Rose attended Stevens Business College in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. It was while she was attending college that she met her husband, Richard Jenkins, who was stationed at Fort Devens Army Base in Massachusetts. Rose and Richard were married on October 13, 1962, and enjoyed 61 happy years together before Richard passed away on March 9, 2024.
Rose worked many different administrative positions, most notably for Yankee Magazine in Dublin, New Hampshire, and for Awane Insurance Company in Peterborough. Throughout her career, Rose was often recognized by employers for her hard work and dedication. She developed many lasting friendships with her coworkers and their families. Rose’s friends often described her as fun-loving, and she dedicated her retirement years to just that, having fun. Rose and Richard split their time between their home in Peterborough and their retirement home in Wells, Maine. Rose loved the ocean and was most happy sitting with friends on the beach. She was a passionate Red Sox fan and never missed watching a game. She also enjoyed playing many games herself, like bingo, cribbage, and mahjong. She was a frequent visitor to the Peterborough Community Center and looked forward to her Friday night dinners and card games with “the girls”.
Rose will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren, who will forever cherish memories of her vibrant love of life and infectious joy. She delighted in teaching card games, especially poker, creating countless evenings of laughter around the table. Rose, a.k.a. Grammy, was the family's go-to problem solver - expertly mending clothes with skillful hands and helping her children navigate car purchases with her keen eye for a good deal. She treasured being part of every family celebration, from birthdays to holidays, bringing her special energy to each gathering. But perhaps even more precious were the quiet moments of everyday family life - the impromptu visits, shared meals, and simple conversations that made ordinary days feel extraordinary through her presence.
Rose is survived by her son Brian Jenkins, his wife, Lynn, and their three children, Sydney, Jasper, and Ted. Rose’s daughter, Virginia Topping, and her husband, Jeff, live in Peterborough and have four children, Anna, Samuel, Greta, and Henry. Rose has two sisters, Ann Marie Aldrich of Melbourne, Florida, and Barbara Duval of Merrimack, New Hampshire. Rose was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Duval of Greenville, New Hampshire, and her loving husband, Richard I. Jenkins.
Per Rose’s wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to jacksgalore.org/donations in Rose Jenkins’s memory. Rose developed a wonderful fondness for dogs later in life, delighting in the companionship and antics of her daughter's furry family members, and would be honored to know her passing helped animals in need find loving homes.
