William "Bill" Channon

November 23, 1947 — August 23, 2025

William “Bill” Roger Channon, 77, of Francestown, passed peacefully at Community Hospice House of Merrimack after a long and courageous battle with multiple chronic illnesses. Born in Lima, Peru, on November 23, 1947, to British parents, Ronald and Beatrice (Adamson) Channon, Bill was a proud Peruvian, Englishman, and U.S. resident.

Bill’s adventurous spirit brought him to the U.S. in the 1970s to study at Wheaton College, IL. Drawn to literature, foreign languages, physics, chemistry, and the great outdoors, he went on to teach in all of these subjects—an uncommon breadth that marked his decades-long education career. His teaching journey led him across the U.S. and abroad with positions at Stonybrook School, Dublin School, Mascenic Regional High School, ConVal High School, and TASIS England.

As an outdoor educator, rock climber, and spelunker, he took Outward Bound courses and scaled mountains in Europe, South America, and the U.S.—nurturing these passions with his family, friends, and students. He drew people with his quirky humor and impish charm, brightening an ordinary phone call or lifting spirits in conversation. He loved spending time with family, exploring nature, traveling, reading, and gardening. He loved sailing, especially aboard his boat, Seal.

Faith was his lifelong guide. After joyfully becoming a follower of Christ as a teenager in Liverpool, UK, he remained deeply committed, serving as an active member of the Anglican Church early on, and, more recently, at local churches including Antrim Baptist Church and The Congregational Church of Peterborough.

Bill will be dearly missed as a loving husband, dad, family member, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine, and daughter, Molly Channon, and her husband, Harold Fehr of Miami Beach; his sister, Susan Frappell, of Devon, UK; and his sister- and brother-in-law, Dian and Jim Pomeranz, of W. Simsbury, CT. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Europe and the U.S. He was predeceased by his parents and by his brother-in-law, Jonathan Frappell.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in spring 2026. Details will be announced on Facebook and in the Ledger Transcript. Burial of his ashes will take place privately at Greenvale Cemetery.
