John Stanley Obituary

John Staples Stanley, of Peterborough NH left this life on February 4, 2022 just shy of his 90th
birthday, surrounded by his family. John lived a full life that included following Jesus, loving his
family and serving others. He leaves a space in his family that can never be replaced.

John was born on March 12, 1932, in Birmingham, AL, the only child of Bernard and Hazel
(Staples) Stanley. He graduated from Woodlawn High School, Samford University and Hunter
College with a Master’s in Social Work. John’s life work always involved helping others in need.
He was an advocate for the broken–whether it was in their home, a courtroom or prison.
He had been a licensed family therapist in private practice, a director of adolescent community
residences, residential chaplain and teacher for at-risk youths, and ran a storefront ministry for
youth gangs in Hell’s Kitchen Harlem, NYC in the 1960’s.

John and Evelyn Rust married in 1955 and were married for 66 years. He is survived by his wife,
Evelyn and their three children and spouses-David (and Lindy) Stanley, Tamara (and Jim)
Dallery, and Mark (and Holly) Stanley. He leaves seven grandchildren and spouses- Sacha (and
Felippe) Miranda of Florida, Tiffany (and Brendan) Noronha of Utah, William (and Rachel)
Dallery of Tennessee, Abigail Dallery of South Carolina, Maclean Dallery of Florida, Megan
Stanley and Scott Stanley of New Hampshire. He was also blessed with two great grandchildren-
Arjen and Zelia Miranda.

John loved his church and had been an active member of Candlewood Baptist Church and
Bedford Community Church.
