Theodore Covert Obituary

Theodore B. Covert died peacefully on March 13, 2018 with his loving family by his side.  He leaves behind Beverly, his beloved wife of 57 years, his son Gregory Covert of New York City, and his daughter Karen Kuchnir, her husband Louis, and their four children, Ken, Abigail, Lauren and Jenna of Southborough, MA.

Ted was the only child of Pauline and Cecil Covert born in Winchester, MA on October 6, 1930.  He attended Winchester High School, and was captain of the cross country team, and manager of the basketball and football teams.   He went to UMass, and had the opportunity to spend one year at the Netherlands Agricultural University.  He graduated from UMass magna cum laude in 1953 with a degree in animal husbandry after which he went to Cornell for his masters degree in agricultural economics.  Shortly after arriving at Cornell, he was drafted and spent two years in the army at Fort Dix, NJ.

His first job was at Corn Products in NYC, in the financial analysis department.  While living in New York, he met and married Beverly Roberts, the love of his life in 1960. In 1962 he took a job at Zotos and moved to Darien, CT, where he and Bev raised two wonderful children.  He was chairman of the Darien Board of Finance for almost 30 years.  Ted and Bev then moved to Rindge, NH, where Ted volunteered on many town committees until 2017.  During this time, he was also on the boards of the Cathedral of the Pines and the Monadnock Country Club for several years.  He loved living on Lake Contoocook and led the effort to rid the Lake of invasive species for many years helping to keep the Lake beautiful and pristine for all. He and Bev started spending winters in Venice, FL in 2007, residing in the golf community of Bird Bay Village.   They later moved to the Rivermead retirement community in Peterborough, NH.   He had many wonderful friends in Darien, Rindge, Venice and Peterborough.

A memorial service will be held at the Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge, NH on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 11am.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Cathedral of the Pines,  and the Monadnock Community Hospital.
