To the Grinwis Family, please receive my heartfelt condolences. I have kept in touch with David Grinwis during our family stay in Brussels, Belgium, during the late 1990's, and upon my return to Washington DC in the early 2000's. My family have met up with David and Jane on a few occasions, the last time was when we had dinner at their Washington DC house back in 2008. I am gratefuly for David's friendship and more importantly with his son James, with whom we went to high school together, and we were to have met up in MA last week, if it was not for David's passing.

I also had the privilege of working with David in Lagos. He was an exemplary Foreign Service Officer and a good friend. I extend my sympathy to his family.

To the family of David Grinwis: I was saddened to learn this morning of David's death. He was the deputy in Lagos when I arrived as a very young and inexperienced officer. I admired him greatly for his experience, intellect and elegance.
