Sanford “Sandy” F. Smith, PhD, 90, of Antrim died at his home on October 28, 2017 after a period of failing health. Sandy was raised in Delmar, NY, the son of Sanford Smith and Margaret (Elder) Smith. He was the oldest of three children and is survived by brother John L. Smith of Santa Rosa, CA and predeceased by his sister Margaret (Peggy) Elder.
Sandy graduated Bethlehem Central High School in NY and Dartmouth College. He was a professor in the Mathematics Genealogy Department at Brown University in Providence, RI. He completed his dissertation in 1967 and received his PhD in Mathematics. He served in the United States Navy as a Decoder of Russian Mathematics.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, December 14th at 2:00 pm at The NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscowen, NH.
